It's 7am on a Saturday morning and I'm up putting the finishing touches on my Texas Revolution unit. What a back and forth battle I go through to resist the urge to make this easy and just put in my lesson plans read these pages and complete this worksheet. Bam! I would have been done BEFORE I left for the Christmas break(yes I said Christmas). But then I remember Mr. Goodwin, my 6th grade history teacher and how ashamed he would be of me. His JFK unit was one piece in my why I want to be a teacher puzzle. I hung on his every word as we dove into the life, presidency and death of JFK. I was ENGAGED before the term was cool.
I want my students to experience that feeling, that thirst for knowledge. Because in my opinion if I'm going to get that kind of interest/engagement out of my students there is no other topic than the Texas Revolution to do it with! Wish me luck as I help 80 amazing kids to not only Remember the Alamo but know who, when, where, why and how!
